On the eve of their first day of training camp, the Texans have signed free agent wide receiver Bryant Johnson and inside linebacker Keyaron Fox.

Johnson, 31, played for the Texans in 2011, catching six passes for 90 yards and a touchdown. He worked out for the team on Thursday along with veteran wide receiver Roy Williams, who was not signed.

A first-round pick out of Penn State in 2003, Johnson (6-3, 212) joins a young wide receiver group that has zero players with an NFL catch beyond veteran starters Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter. He will compete for a spot with rookies DeVier Posey and Keshawn Martin as well as second-year players Lestar Jean and Jeff Maehl, among others.

Fox, 30, spent last season with the Washington Redskins. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2008-10 and Kansas City Chiefs from 2004-07.

A third-round pick from Georgia Tech in 2004, Fox (6-3, 235) has played in 98 career games with seven starts and 100 tackles. He has 79 career special teams tackles.

The Texans now have 88 players on their roster, leaving them with space for two more under the NFL’s 90-man roster limit.
