Two of the Texans’ top free agents, free safety
Quin, who has started in Houston for each of the last four seasons, is reportedly headed to meet with the Detroit Lions. Casey, a versatile pass-catcher who can line up at multiple positions, is set to visit the Philadelphia Eagles. ESPN reported on Tuesday afternoon that the Eagles are closing in on a deal for Casey.
John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday that 15 teams, including the Texans, inquired about Casey. A fifth-round draft pick out of Rice in 2009, Casey set career-highs last season with 34 catches for 330 yards and three touchdowns.
If Quin leaves the Texans, safety would immediately vault to the top of the team’s list of offseason priorities. Quin has started 60 of 64 games in the last four seasons and is a quiet leader in the secondary. He played cornerback in 2009-10 and gives the Texans flexibility in their nickel and dime packages. The Texans do not have a player ready to step in and replace him on the roster.
Free agency began at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday. As of early Tuesday evening, the Texans have not made any moves aside from re-signing practice squad tight end
