Safety Danieal Manning healing nicely

Posted Mar 18, 2014

Danieal Manning's return from a knee injury is progressing splendidly, according to the safety.

Danieal Manning's 2013 season was cut short by a right knee injury in the Week 6 loss to Saint Louis. Five months later, the Texans' safety is encouraged by his rehab progress.

"Physically, I really believe I'm way ahead of schedule," Manning said Tuesday afternoon on Texans Radio. "I am definitely getting stronger. I'm running a lot better."

Manning was one of several key starters the Texans lost during the 2-14 campaign, and in the coming days he might take another big step.

"Hopefully one day this week I'll be out on the field running," Manning said. "I'm able to run on an Alter-G (treadmill), and that's around 90 percent of my body weight. So I'm pretty much on the treadmill at 90 percent."

The Abilene Christian product has been in the NFL since 2006, and said he's running "30 minutes at 90 percent".

Also, being on the sidelines for such a large chunk of last season, allowed him to view the game in a new way.

"I have the chance to see football from a different perspective," Manning said. "The ins and outs of what this organization is about. And the schemes. So I've had the chance to really watch our players. Man, there's things I can correct when I'm out there now. And things that I can stay away from."
