No injury updates for Texans until Wednesday

Posted Jan 7, 2013

Texans coach Gary Kubiak did not provide injury updates at his Monday news conference, leaving the status of TE Garrett Graham in question.

The Texans are not required to give an injury report until Wednesday, so head coach Gary Kubiak politely declined to disclose injury information at his Monday afternoon news conference at Reliant Stadium.

Kubiak was asked about tight end Garrett Graham, who absorbed a forceful hit to the helmet from Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Wild Card playoff game.

“We’re going to talk about injuries on Wednesday,” Kubiak said. “So we’ll update you guys. That’ll be the first time we’ll talk about that.”

Graham suffered a concussion earlier in the season at Tennessee. He missed the next game, which was the Texans’ 42-14 loss at New England on Dec. 10, before returning a week later. The Texans’ second tight end, Graham is crucial to the versatility of an offense that frequently uses two- and three-tight end sets with Owen Daniels and fullback James Casey. His absence would be quietly significant if it turns out he is unable to play in the Divisional Round at New England on Sunday.

Other than Graham, the Texans did not appear to suffer any notable injuries against the Bengals. Daniels left the game in the third quarter but returned on the next series and made a seven-yard catch.

Outside linebacker Brooks Reed (groin) and starting right tackle Derek Newton (knee) are both healthy after not playing in the Texans’ last game against New England.

“Getting Brooks back, I think, makes us more balanced in our pass rush and what we’re doing, and that’s going to be important,” Kubiak said. “We didn’t have Brooks last time we went down there, so that’s a nice thing to have back. We didn’t have Newton last time, so it’s nice to have Newton back. That’ll be important.”
