"Fresh start" needed for Schaub, Texans

Posted Mar 24, 2014

In a 1-on-1 with the NFL Network, Texans head coach Bill O'Brien spoke about Matt Schaub's trade and more.

Bill O'Brien's in Orlando for the NFL Annual Meetings, and he went 1-on-1 with Steve Wyche from the NFL Network. The two talked mainly about Texans' quarterbacks: those to come, and the one who just left in Matt Schaub.

It was the first time O'Brien was interviewed at length since he spoke at the NFL Scouting Combine, and the head coach discussed last week's trade of Schaub to Oakland.

"I had a chance to speak to Matt twice," O'Brien said. "Once on the phone and once in person. You talk about a class act, and a really good guy."

Schaub started eight games in 2013, tossing 10 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. The Texans received a 6th-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft for the veteran quarterback, who O'Brien thinks has a chance contribute to the Raiders.

"Smart guy, and a guy that can still play in this League, no question about it," O'Brien said.

O'Brien also explained that a change of scenery will do Schaub and the Texans a bit of good, and that "everybody needs a fresh start".

The Texans will face the Raiders in Oakland in 2014.
