BWTB: Eric Dickerson sees self in Arian Foster

Posted Jun 25, 2014

Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson said Texans running back Arian Foster "reminds me of myself".

Arian Foster has a fan in Eric Dickerson.

The Hall of Fame running back was recently at NRG Stadium, and we stole a few minutes of his time to get his thoughts on the Texans' ball-carrier.

"I think Arian Foster is one of the best backs in the NFL," Dickerson, who ranks seventh on the NFL career rushing yards list, said. "He reminds me of myself.

Dickerson starred in high school at Sealy, and then went on to an All-American career at Southern Methodist University from 1979-82. He was picked second in the 1983 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams, and ran for 1,808 yards and 18 touchdowns during his Rookie of the Year season. He followed it up in 1984 with a record 2,105 rushing yards.

Dickerson said he met Foster at the Super Bowl two years ago, and that the two "talked for a long time." He thought, and still thinks, highly of the Houston running back and was flattered to find out Foster felt the same way.

"I didn't know he was such a big fan," Dickerson said. "I'm a fan (of his), too. Any kind of guy that's a tall guy, that runs kind of upright"

Dickerson said Foster is both blessed and cursed by the effortless appearance on the field.

"It looks like you're not trying," Dickerson said. "Like you're not running hard. That's how you are when you're kind of an elusive back, a big back, and you run fast. You just cover a lot of ground. You don't have to do all that huffing and puffing."

Foster took part in organized team activies (OTA) as well as minicamp, after spending the latter half of 2013 on the injured reserve. He and Dickerson got a chance to catch up when the Hall of Famer was at the stadium.
