First Down Dads
In 2012, the Texans enhanced the First Down Dads program to create activities and events that provide fathers and their kids with opportunities to spend one-on-one time together. More than 250 participants spent a morning running through football drills with Texans coaches and learning valuable tips on how to be better fathers. The First Down Dads Movie Night was hosted in the Methodist Training Center, where dads and their entire families were treated to a showing of “Air Bud” while enjoying snacks on the practice field.

From hundreds of nominations, 10 local charities were chosen for their noble community efforts throughout the season. The three charities who received the most nominations were rewarded with a $5,000 donation from Halliburton. Additionally, each charity chosen received tickets to a home game during the 2012 season, as well as air time on the Houston Texans Radio programs to promote their organizations.

Reliant Energy Scholarship for Champions

Stars in the Classroom
Through a partnership with First Community Credit Union, 11 Houston-area teachers were nominated by their students for being outstanding in the classroom. Whataburger Community Player of the Month
Each month during the 2012 season, three Texans players were nominated by a team captain for their exceptional involvement in the community. One winner per month was chosen by fan votes. Each winner and team captain signed autographs in a local Whataburger and received $2,500 for their charity of choice. The 2012 winners were linebacker Darryl Sharpton, safety Danieal Manning, linebacker Jesse Nading, and fullback James Casey. At the end of the season, Manning was voted the Community Player of the Year.
